How to Beat the April Blues

April can often seem like the low point of the year between all the rain and waiting on the transition from cold weather to summer weather. It has been about a year since the pandemic started and the work force came to somewhat of a pause. Missing your office and colleagues can have you down in the dumps. Lead Chairman of the construction company Wates, Paul Drechsler, said, "good health IS good business". With all the significant change that has happened, what are some things that can take place to ensure you are helping your team and keeping them from feeling the blues?

One thing that can be done is prioritizing quality time. Try to emphasize the importance of trying to make your colleagues still feel connected, though they may be working remote. Besides just zoom meetings and such, try launching virtual classes and activities, like a zoom yoga class or a virtual happy hour. Things like this can boost your colleague's productivity and how much they want to give back to their work life. This can support their wellbeing by giving them back that buzz from their social lives. Keeping the office's social and culture life alive during the pandemic and lockdown is achievable.

Another option to show support to your team is to ask what you can maybe help them with. Parents are juggling a full load with kids now being home schooled and still working full time. Offering what you or the company can do to help can show great support. This could mean possibly offering IT services, WIFI help, or negotiating more flexible work hours for those trying to balance the heavy weight placed upon many of us during this difficult time.

There are many ways to beat the April blues. Supporting each other is the biggest factor to get through these crazy times.
