What Should I Look For in a Coworking Space?

While coworking spaces have been in the US since at least 2005, they have gained popularity over the last 5 years since COVID changed the landscape of the workplace. Working from home became, perhaps for the first time in our country, as commonplace as a water cooler in the break room. However, it didn’t take long before workers began realizing that balancing work and home life while at home has a mountainous set of challenges: kids, and pets, and errands, oh, my! So many of those home-bound began looking for a space to work from remotely - providing an opportunity for separation, focus, and productivity. Hence, the coworking space was born. Yet, it seems the majority of people still have a limited understanding of what a coworking place offers and what features to look for in a potential space.

When you are contemplating what a coworking space can offer, there are a few basic questions to start with:

1)      Location – how far am I willing to go from where I usually am?

2)      Do I want occasional use, or regular and consistent use?

3)      Do I need space for myself (or a coworker) to work, or do I need a meeting

space – or both?

4)      Do I need complete privacy, or is an open space with potentially other people

around me more energizing?

Location

Location is important for obvious reasons: the closer it is, the more often you’ll use the space. Whether you’re a remote worker that lives in Woodstock, or if you live in Alpharetta for example, but have clients in Woodstock, Canton, Acworth or further south, such as Cobb County, The Innovation Spot is a perfect central location.

Located about a half mile from Main Street in downtown Woodstock (close enough for an easy Uber Eats delivery for lunch; far enough away from all the parking woes of downtown), The Innovation Spot is in the heart of Woodstock activity and life.

Usage

For a personal/private workspace, if you plan to use it less than 5-6 times per month, then you may just need day passes to accommodate you. If you are confident that you might use it more often than that (say twice per week or more), then you might consider a monthly membership.

You can do a day pass for a private office, a semi-private glass office, a cubicle, a dedicated desk, or a hot desk. A hot desk is simply a table that is in an open area – you pick one, sit down, and get to work! The benefit here is there is no commitment; you do not need to be a member to enjoy day passes.

Membership has incredible benefits, though. 24/7 access, 10% discount on all bookings, and booking credits that can be used toward other bookings or conference rooms are some of the initial advantages. Keep reading if you want to know more about booking credits!

Variety of Spaces

Finding the right size and privacy for you or your coworkers/employees is usually the easiest part. Just like you can do day passes for a private office, a semi-private glass office, a cubicle, a dedicated desk, or a hot desk, you can also rent any of these in a monthly membership.

Additionally, we have four conference rooms of differing sizes. The two smaller ones book by the hour, and the two larger ones by the half day. You can also book all four for whole days at an hourly discount.

Further, if you need a meeting room regularly enough, we have monthly Conference Room plans you can choose from with built-in discounts.

If you need both a private space and an occasional meeting room, monthly memberships include a certain number of booking credits, depending on the size of the space you rent. These credits allow you to book a conference room or a day pass (say, for a coworker to come collaborate with you) when you need it. Each booking credit = one dollar, so as a Member, you would use 18 credits to book our smallest conference room for one hour. A private office comes with 225 credits that are renewed every month!

Private or Open? THAT is the Question

Depending on what you do on the daily, an open space might be a great fit! There’s a certain energy to working in a room full of others busily completing tasks and plowing through online meetings. Sometimes, when a break is needed, profitable conversations can take place that could never happen if you were in your home or at a library.

Other things require a quiet, closed, private office to get the desired focus and intentionality. The Innovation Spot has private and executive offices that boast of tall ceilings, comfortable furniture, electronic sit/stand desks (they are the BEST), and vary in sizes from 1-2 person offices to executive offices that can accommodate 4-5 people.

A middle-of-the-road option we offer for this question is our mini glass offices. They are more semi-private as the tops are open for ventilation and the walls are almost completely glass – but you still have a locking door to protect your privacy and belongings.

Whatever your needs, The Innovation Spot has a wide range of spaces, plans, and options to take your business productivity to the next level! Whether it be an easy place to land that avoids the crowds of a coffee or sandwich shop to knock out some work in between appointments, or a private office space for you or a handful of employees or coworkers, or anything in between – The Innovation Spot could be just the thing you’ve been looking for.
